"We had quite good journey to Poole, but had to wait 3 hours there before we could get on. So went out to see the country, this is such a nice little place & lots of visitors. We have been on the golf links all day - Much love S.H."
Constructed in Mowlem's stone yard at Greenwich the great globe weighs 40 tons and is 10 feet in diameter. It was transported to Swanage by sea in 15 sections. It was set up on a platform cut into the solid rock by the builder William Masters Hardy.
