Fund raising is a crucial part of our program, the Museum is a voluntary organisation and  NEEDS support throughout the year to maintain this unique resource open and available to the community and our many visitors.  We are fortunate this year to be opening a trading arm to the Museum, run entirely by volunteer staff.  This is a huge undertaking by the members.  If you feel you can contribute  as a volunteeer or to our fund raising efforts, then please get in touch with the Museum.

Family History Day at Langton Matravers

The Museum gave it's support to the Langton Matraver's Family History Day on Saturday June 18th.  The event took place in the Langton Matraver's Village Hall.  The museum was represented by; the Hon Curator, David Haysom and researchers John Patrick, David Forster, and Jacqui Forster.

We took a small display of the Bastable Family, the Sheila Ford Collection of Family Trees of Purbeck and our computers, with access to Indexes, Rates, Trade Directories and schools in Swanage.  We also had internet connection so were able to access ancestry.co.uk, find my past, dorsetopc.org and other sites.

We were able to help with enquiries regarding past residents of Swanage and more general local history enquiries.  There was a lot of good discussions and sharing of resources between members of both museums.

The Museum would like to thank our hosts for a very enjoyable day, especially the 'tea ladies' led by Pam, the cakes were delicious, we look forward to returning next year.
