Swanage Regatta & Carnival Week
Presentation Evening
Friday October 1st 2010

It was indeed an enjoyable evening, compered with great aplomb by David Hollister.  The Carnival Queen and her two princesses were in attendance looking stunning in their beautiful dresses and together with  the Mayor, Mr Bill Trite, presented cheques to various organisations.

This year we were lucky enough to be one of the organisations choosen by Swanage Regatta and Carnival to receive money from the proceeds of the 2010 Carnival.

Swanage Regatta & Carnival Week
31st July 'til 7th August 2009

On Friday October 1st, representatives from the Museum were invited to the Carnival Committee presentation evening to receive a cheque as one of the nominated charities.  David and Sarah Haysom, David and Jacqui Forster and Brian Clifford represented the Museum on behalf of all the members who had taken part in surporting the Carnival events.

We waited with eager anticipation for our name to be announced; when our turn came to receive our cheque Sarah and Jacqui went forward rather nervously to talk to Mr Hollister, but he made the ordeal very pleasant and enjoyable.  We then went on the stage to receive a cheque for £1000 from the Mayor.  We were overjoyed to say the least as we had no idea how much the Museum would be awarded.

Our sincere thanks to the Carnival Committee for this generous donation which is earmarked for the purchase of past Swanage newspapers on microfilm to add to our achive.  Newspapers give us so much information about Swanage's past and its people, from births, marriages and deaths, to individuals  who were running businesses in the town and other local news stories, as well as events happening in the wider world.

Sarah and Jacqui with the cheque, we couldn't stop grinning!
